Each year, Gladstone welcomes a cohort of students from community colleges to learn from and conduct research alongside Gladstone scientists. Each student is paired with mentors in a lab and spends the summer learning various lab techniques and networking with researchers at all levels of the organization. In addition, students attend a professional development course to improve their communication skills and discover different career paths in science.
The program wraps up with a poster session, during which interns share their research and celebrate their accomplishments with their peers, mentors, and other Gladstonians.
The PUMAS program was established in 2014. It is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health through a grant supporting educational activities that enhance diversity in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research.
Your gift to Gladstone will allow our researchers to pursue high-quality science, focus on disease, and train the next generation of scientific thought leaders.
